From Lady Bird's procession through Austin, on her way to rest.

summer

IMG_1570 copy

There's something about Barton Springs that is so inherently 'summer' to me. It's all about being free, and the sun, and the snow cones.

blue

IMG_3401 copy

There was so much blue there that day.

8.23.2008

la bahia

IMG_2839 copy

I shot this one on the way home for the Christmas holidays. I've passed this mission a countless number of times, but the day was so pretty, I couldn't help myself.

mr rowdy

IMG_2996 copy

I know I've already showed this one on my other blog. I also know that looking at pictures of other people's dogs get boring. This one is my favorite, though.

bracelets

IMG_3490 copy

From the wedding of a cousin of a friend I made in Arabic class. It was a bit of a daunting task, but who knows why I felt that way. Everyone there was so warm and inviting. It really was a treat to shoot.

another old one

power copy

I know this was part of an assignment for my photojournalism class, but I honestly can't remember which one. Perhaps self portrait? Either way, I still like the sun flare.

freedom to marry

IMG_0069 copy

This day. Wow. There was so much going on in term of media attention. The amount of photographers present was staggering, and I felt a little bit like part of the blood-sucking paparazzi. Considering I wasn't actually there on assignment, I just kind of hung back. This is a photograph of one of my co-workers at the time, Lauren. She just happened to be the musical entertainment of the day.

more KFC protest

IMG_1115 copy

I'd actually like to make this part of a larger project of examining what happens when women shed their clothes in the name of protest.

Somewhere along the way I have acquired an old Brownie Hawkeye camera. Hawkeye is quite possibly the most awesome name for a camera. Using it is mainly guesswork, and changing film is an absolute chore. I love it anyway.

the grass is always greener

shadow copy

Not the most technically difficult of shots, but I still love the color.

grannybarb

IMG_2880 copy

It doesn't really matter if she is actually your grandmother or not, everyone just calls her Grannybarb.

'til death do us part

IMG_3058 copy

I always thought that the line "'til death do us part" was a delightfully morbid aspect of traditional weddings. I couldn't decide on the b/w or color version. The sky was so beautiful that day, but you can see so much more detail in b/w. See the color version here.

KFC Kills Chicks

IMG_1118 copy

Part of an ongoing protest by PETA against KFC. Women dress in yellow bikinis and stand on street corners to protest inhumane treatment of chickens.

More from the Obama Rally

IMG_0272 copy

This isn't the best photography from that day, but it's still one of my favorites. There are people holding and shaking signs, clapping, cheering, snapping photographs, flashing bulbs - but for that little girl, it's only her and Obama.

Mikey

mikey copy

Mikaela was so adorable, it was really hard not to just photograph her all day.

Liz

First paid gig with the digital SLR - also first paid gig with someone I didn't know personally. About half an hour in, we both relaxed a bit and produced some great photographs. There are plenty of uncomfortable ones, though.

Throne Room

throne room.2 copy

Taken in conjunction with an anthropology paper. I don't really remember much from this other than the awkwardness of hanging out in someone's backyard, climbing all over what amounted to a fancy jungle gym.

Obama, '08

IMG_0096 copy

One of the first shoots after buying my digital SLR.

oldie but good-y

sun copy

This one is from a friend's wedding shower that I planned back in 2005, when I first started getting serious about my photographs. With most of my old photographs, I can't understand why I thought they were any good. This one, some how, lasted.

8.02.2008

From Austin's Pride Parade, 2007 - one of my favorite shoots so far.

8.01.2008

rally 43 copy

This was a difficult shoot for me. I was constantly self-conscious of my own position regarding abortion, but honestly trying to photograph without prejudice.

taking the easy way out

Maintaining a website is work - the kind which I don't necessarily have the time to complete. You see, there's a thing called school. Turns out I go there every day. And then there's the internship and studying and various other things I have to make time for, like watching cartoons.

So, in order to keep my portfolio as updated and current as possible, I've made this here little photo blog.
