What bothers me most about going to protests (whether they are ones I agree with, or not) are the overwhelming amounts of children present. These girls aren't children, they are certainly old enough to know about abortions, but there were PLENTY of babies and toddlers present at this parade. I can *maybe* understand talking a small child to pro-life parade, I mean it works as a fantastic emotional argument. There have been others, though, where I wonder. Your baby has no flipping idea what is going on, or the pros and cons of competing arguments. They are just there because you made them go. Did you take your baby to a pro-choice parade the next day so they could get another viewpoint and decide for themselves?

barack and roll
I've never had so much riding on this one election. I feel like my ability to continue living within the United States is dependent on November 4th. It isn't just that I couldn't stand living 4 more years under the intolerance, fear, and war mongering of certain Republicans, it's also that there is such a balanced and intelligent leader on the other side. There has been so much talk about what a historical race this has been, and that isn't untrue. I would be completely thrilled to see the first African-American elected to the presidential office.
I *would* be thrilled that there is a female vice-presidential candidate, but, you see, I don't vote with my ovaries. There was so much criticism of Hillary supporters - claims that they were really only voting for her because she was a woman. If that were true, you could count my vote for McCain/Palin, only I refuse to vote for that atrocious woman.

another old one
I know this was part of an assignment for my photojournalism class, but I honestly can't remember which one. Perhaps self portrait? Either way, I still like the sun flare.

freedom to marry
This day. Wow. There was so much going on in term of media attention. The amount of photographers present was staggering, and I felt a little bit like part of the blood-sucking paparazzi. Considering I wasn't actually there on assignment, I just kind of hung back. This is a photograph of one of my co-workers at the time, Lauren. She just happened to be the musical entertainment of the day.
